Southern Legend remains a clear $2.70 favourite in 2016 Theo Marks Stakes betting markets with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of Counterattack ($4) and Tycoon Tara ($8.50).

Will Southern Legend justify favouritism and win the 2016 Theo Marks Stakes, or will one of her talented rivals post an upset.

Counterattack ($4)

Consistent sprinter Counterattack flies fresh, is drawn ideally with Hugh Bowman in the saddle and is over the Theo Marks Stakes odds at $4 for success. Winning each of the Listed Heritage Stakes (1100m) and Listed Brian Crowley Stakes (1200m) before running third in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) last spring, the Redoute’s Choice entire returned in autumn for third in the Group 3 Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) before finishing fifth in the Listed Darby Munro (1200m), second in the Group 2 Arrowfield Sprint (1200m) and winning the Group 3 Fred Best Classic (1350m) most notably. Counterattack has been charged with carrying only 55.5kgs and should just win the Theo Marks Stakes.

Vashka ($17)

Vashka failed to produce much in his first-up run but is sure to have taken plenty of benefit from it, and is another runner that is simply over the Theo Mark Stakes odds at his current quote. Posting eight wins and a further four minors through seventeen career starts, the Exceed And Excel gelding was a standout through the 2015 edition of the Spring Carnival; ending his campaign with consecutive wins in the Group 2 Shannon Stakes (1500m) and Group 3 Moonga Stakes (1400m). James McDonald takes the ride, and that could very well prove the difference in the Theo Marks Stakes.

Rebel Dane ($10)

Group 1 winner Rebel Dane is without doubt up to the quality of the Theo Marks Stakes and is worth consideration as a fold in a trifecta at current odds. Producing a number of typically-smart efforts in autumn and returning to the paddock after running fourth in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m), the California Dane entire resumed this time for second in the Group 2 Missile Stakes (1200m) before running third behind Winx and Hartnell in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) last time out.
