The 2013 Theo Marks Stakes will be run under quality handicap conditions and is open horses aged three-years-old and upwards.

Running as part of Golden Rose Day, it shares its day with the Group 1 Golden Rose, Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes and Group 3 Sheraco Stakes.

According to Brisbane trainer Robert Heathcote, Solzhenitsyn will have his first-up spring start in the 2013 Theo Marks Stakes.

“On his way down to Melbourne we are going to stop in Sydney for the Theo Marks,” Heathcote told Racing Ahead.

“He raced really well fresh last preparation at Rosehill in the Canterbury Stakes, where he rain third to Pierro and More Joyous, and he has clearly shown that he can run a nice race fresh.”

Solzhenitsyn will be returning following a long winter spell and hasn’t raced since his Brisbane winter carnival campaign.

The St Petersburg gelding placed fifth in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap last start after posting a win in the Group 3 Lord Mayor’s Cup in his previous start.

Solzhenitsyn’s best win to date was in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap, which he won by almost half a length during last year’s spring carnival in Melbourne.
