The 2011 Theo Marks Stakes is now only a matter of weeks away with the majority of horses already back or starting up this weekend ahead of their spring campaigns.
By the time the Theo Marks Stakes comes around they should all be well and truly back into it and back into a good level of fitness as well.
This will mean the racing will be top notch and it all bodes well for another top notch Theo Marks Stakes in 2011.
The race itself is scheduled for Saturday September 10th at Rosehill Racecourse in Melbourne.
It remains as a Group 2 matchup in 2011 with $200,000 up for grabs.
This year one noticeable change will be the move from 1400m back to 1300m which will increase the early tempo in the race and suit the genuine sprinters more than the quick middle distance runners that have still enjoyed success in the past.
Another thing to remember is that in the past the Concorde Stakes have proven to be a fantastic lead up form race given that they were also run at Rosehill two weeks earlier.
This year though that race has been moved to Randwick and will be held the weekend before the Theo Marks Stakes, so whether or not it will stay a strong form race remains to be seen.
In a blow to the race this year though last year’s champion More Joyous will not be back to defend her title this year.
The Gai Waterhouse trained runner will make her return to the track on September 30th in the Manikato Stakes ruling her out of a Theo Marks Stakes run.
There will still be a top field on hand though so check back in the week before the race where we’ll post full fields, form guides as well as the very best tips.
